GREAT NEWS! Bluestone Energy Withdraws Injection Well Application at Lake Arlington!

Just a quick note to let everyone know that the Texas Railroad Commission issued an Order of Withdrawal on behalf of Bluestone Energy. The application for an injection well to be built met with public pressure and the corporatists pulled back.

A few weeks ago, we published two articles on this subject, asking for public pressure to be brought upon the RR Commission to deny Bluestone's request.

Because of the great work of Ranjana Bhandari and Liveable Arlington, success has been achieved.

Thank you, Greens, for your support as well. Because of public awareness of this intrusion upon our environment, it was turned back. Pressure made the difference!

Debunking the Pendulum Theory

Democrats and other anti-Trump politicos sense that their prey is in distress. There is growing optimism about the opportunities it presents for the Left.

For instance, some are saying that Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris agreement is an opportunity to seize a moment (see Joe Ware's article in Counterpunch), that in four years, the issue of climate change could be the major topic of the 2020 presidential election, and they believe it would bode well for progressives.

Others are pushing the moment to pass single payer health care because Trump has been unsuccessful in killing off Obamacare.

Both would be welcome changes, but neither will happen if the Left depends entirely on the momentum of the pendulum.

Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor's Call to Social Revolution

At the commencement for Hampshire College, Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor delivers a powerful speech, calling for defiance and social revolution against the status quo. An excerpt:

History, struggle, solidarity, and hope. Unto themselves they don't guarantee us a better world, but without them we don't stand a chance. There are never guarantees that we will win in our movements, but really we have nothing to lose but our chains, be they mental, physical or spiritual. A life of activism and struggle can be exhilarating, frustrating, challenging, but always interesting. Keep reading, keep questioning, listen more intently, and learn from the experiences and mistakes of others. Another world is possible, a world free of racism, sexism, transphobia, religious bigotry, a world free of borders is possible, if we are willing to fight for it.

Praxis: Breaking Free From Neoliberalism

Gustavo Gutierrez, the author of Theology of Liberation, said:

But the poor person does not exist as an inescapable fact of destiny. His or her existence is not politically neutral, and it is not ethically innocent. The poor are a by-product of the system in which we live and for which we are responsible. They are marginalized by our social and cultural world. They are the oppressed, exploited proletariat, robbed of the fruit of their labor and despoiled of their humanity. Hence the poverty of the poor is not a call to generous relief action, but a demand that we go and build a different social order. (Emphasis, the author's)

The failure of neoliberalism and its prominent purveyors is its insistence on ignoring the obvious, that it is impossible to reform an unjust system of economics by utilizing the economic, cultural, and social apparatus that is itself the cause of that injustice.
